Family Promise Announces Anniversary Celebration, Corresponding Fundraising Campaign

Camp Hill, PA – At their annual fundraiser on April 27, Family Promise of Harrisburg Capital Region announced to its largest crowd ever that they were celebrating the 15th anniversary of providing shelter for families with children experiencing homelessness this year.
“On October 17, 2010, Family Promise welcomed the first families with children into their rotational shelter program in the Harrisburg Capital Region”, announced Board Member Chuck Kauffman. “For the last 15 years, we have partnered with our community to empower Cumberland, Dauphin, and Perry County families through relationships and skill-building to move from homelessness to home.”
Executive Director Matthew Wagner echoed the sentiment: “We only exist because of the community support we’ve received over the years. This isn’t my organization, or the Board’s organization, the organization ultimately belongs to the community.” He added “That community has allowed us to grow from serving 15 -20 families per year as we got started to helping 10 – 15 families per month in 2024 with services such as finding jobs that pay a family-sustaining wage, obtain or maintain permanent transportation, avoid being evicted from their home, and helping families with children experiencing homelessness address the issues preventing them from obtaining permanent housing and helping every family make sure they can have a home, a livelihood, and a chance to build a better future together."
They also announced some big plans for expanding services.
“As awareness of our programs has grown, we’ve had several opportunities presented to us in the past few months for programs such as bridge housing, eviction prevention programming, and a second shelter program in Northern Dauphin,” Wagner said. “That’s why, in conjunction with our anniversary celebration, we’re announcing a campaign to raise $105,000 before October 17th.  These funds will allow us to make some necessary renovations to our Day Center to make it more comfortable and safer for our families and expand our capacity to bring in the volunteers, interns, and staff to run those programs.”
They also announced a matching campaign running until May 31 of up to $7,800 to kick off the fundraising effort.
“This is a great opportunity to double your investment in the future of Family Promise and the families we serve,” stated Kauffman.  “Where else can you get a 100% return on your investment these days?”
