There Is No Future Without The Past & Souls Shot Portrait Project

Carlisle Arts Learning Center is proud to host two new exhibits opening April 25, 2025. On display in our first floor G.B. Stuart Gallery will be There Is No Future Without The Past, featuring collages by Oxana Kovalchuk, while our second floor gallery will hold an exhibition of portraits from Souls Shot Portrait Project. Please join us on Friday, April 25, from 5:30-7pm for the opening reception and an interview with Oxana Kovalchuk.

There Is No Future Without The Past: Oxana Kovalchuk
Originally born in Kazakhstan, New York-based artist Oxana Kovalchuk has lived in four countries throughout her life. Oxana explores the impact of this separation from her familial and cultural roots through her collages. In a statement about her work, Oxana writes, “My creative process includes collecting and assembling mixed media objects and pieces into collages. I paint, draw, glue, and put different parts together. This symbolic activity represents introspection, exploration, and recognition of my feelings and experiences stemming from a lack of belonging to a multi-generational family.”

Souls Shot Portrait Project
Souls Shot Portrait Project, in collaboration with CALC, is presenting Pennsylvania Chapter: Volume 2, a continuation in their series of exhibits highlighting the lives lost to gun violence. This project unites the families and friends of victims with fine artists to memorialize their personhood. The portraits are created using diverse artistic styles and media to emphasize the unique qualities of each victim being portrayed. Join us for a panel discussion which will include project organizers, participants, and local Carlisle advocates on Saturday, May 24th at 1 pm.
