Although landlocked, Cumberland County’s waterways have been a touchpoint in trade, our drinking water, and our popular fishing spots. Join us for a three-part program highlighting Cumberland County’s waterways with representatives from the Penn State Master Watershed Steward Program!
All sessions on Thursdays, June 12, July 17, and August 14
The first session will cover the Master Watershed Steward program – who they are, what they do, and how they get involved. The second session will provide an overview of how we, as residents, can help reduce stormwater runoff and pollution from entering our local streams. In addition to showing how our streams become polluted, they will go through Penn State Extension’s Watershed Friendly Property Certification, a program for both small properties (apartments included!) and large properties, owned and rented. The third session will outline some easy ways for landowners to help improve the quality of our streams and rivers. One technique discussed will be live staking, a low-cost way to help prevent soil erosion and add valuable habitat to our streambanks. Volunteer opportunities will also be discussed.
