Bosler’s Birthday Series: The Bosler Family and Their World from Carlisle to California

In Carlisle it is easy to take a Bosler for granted: a name on an old map, a library, a street name. We have small hints of the large, colorful, and influential family in Cumberland County history. The Boslers became known from Carlisle to the Midwest to the Great Plains to California. Yet Carlisle always remained a home to them, even as they gradually disappeared. This is their story.

Jeff Wood and his wife Betsy founded Whistlestop Bookshop 40 years ago.  It still thrives in Bosler’s neighborhood. He is a Dickinson College graduate and has a Masters in American Studies from Penn State University. For 20 years he delivered The Cumberland County Historical Society’s Fall Lecture Series. He has served on the boards of Bosler, the Historical Society, and the Carlisle Theatre.
